Environment Cleaning and Tree Planting 2023

In line with the UN sustainability goal and fostering a culture of good stewardship of the environment four chapters of WFWP went into action this spring to clean different cities across three of our beautiful provinces:

  1. In the Montreal area our volunteers, 7 women and youth led by Jeanine Museau Kabuya participated in the annual clean-up of a wooded area of the Marcel Laurin park in Ville St-Laurent on April 21st. Many civic groups were also in attendance.

It began in the early afternoon with welcoming words from the mayor, Alan de Souza and one of the city counsellor, Mr Aref Salem who offered his encouragement to all presents.

  2. On May 29 in St Narcisse de Maurice, a smaller municipality North-east of Montreal,Quebec, a private company Reboisement Social with Arbre Evolution coop organized tree planting day with the help from St- Narcisse Municipality. We planted around 60 trees 6 volunteers of the Women's Federation family and our neighbour friend as well as other volunteers, mostly students and elderly.

  3. In Ottawa, on May 27th Blandine Stringer, our representative joined the annual clean-up with the Capital Region Interfaith Committee. This was a wonderful opportunity to, not only take care of the environment, but also establish deeper friendship amongst people dedicated to serve the needs of their community of faith.

  4. In Toronto, on June 3rd, there was a gathering of 12 WFWP volunteers who joined force with the Jean Augustine Center for Young Women Empowerment staff and other friends and social organizations from Mississauga, Brampton and the neighborhood to clean the Jean Augustine Park. It was a joyous occasion with food and games led by the staff member of JAYWE center. The honorable Jean Augustine herself was in attendance, sharing her gladness of having been awarded an honorary degree from Humber University and having received the honor of having a medal in her name to be given each year to a student showing leadership and dedication to community service. Many young volunteers expressed their surprise and awe at meeting with Jean Augustine in person, whom they had learned about in their classroom as the initiator of Black History month in Canada.

We are grateful to have the opportunity to create or renew our relationship with worthy social organisations who share a desire to serve others and improve the environment and lives.
