Founder & Presidents
“History is calling for reconciliation, compassion, love, service and sacrifice. Today’s problems cannot be solved by the logic of power...Our present problems can only be solved by the logic of love.”
— DR. HAK JA HAN MOON
DR. HAK JA HAN MOON
Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, the Founder of the Women's Federation for World Peace International, has dedicated her life to the quest for peace. Along with her husband, the Reverend Sun Myung Moon, she has worked with heads of state, Nobel prize winners, religious leaders, and men and women of the arts to create a world of God's ideal. This pursuit has taken her to the halls of power. In July of 1993, she was the first Korean woman to address a meeting of United States Senators and Congressmen on Capitol Hill. Two months later, on September 7, Mrs. Moon became the first Korean woman to give an address in the United Nations. Her message on both these occasions connected women's responsibility in the quest for world peace with the deepest elements of human existence: the heart of God, the suffering of humanity, and the meaning of human history. As a mother of 14, she is a woman of intense devotion to God, to the world, and to her husband and family - a woman of true love.
INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENT JULIA MOON
Julia H. Moon is President of the Women's Federation for World Peace International. An internationally renowned ballerina, she is also the chairperson of the Universal Culture Foundation, coordinating the operations of the Universal Art Center, the Universal Ballet Academy, the Kirov Academy of Ballet in Washington, D.C., and the Julia Company, aside from the Universal Ballet Company.
Born in the USA, Julia received her early training at the Sunhwa Arts School in Seoul, the Royal Ballet School in London, and L'Academie de Danse Classique de Princesse Grace in Monaco and later became a dancer with the Washington Ballet. In 1984, when Universal Ballet was founded as the first civilian ballet company in Korea, she moved to the country to continue her dancing career as one of its founding members and the prima ballerina.
She later made a successful transition from a prima ballerina to CEO and introduced pre-event commentary and real-time subtitles in ballet concerts for the first time in Korea. She also dedicates much of her time to her social contribution activities under the motto “I am because we are”. Her accomplishments in this area include the Julia Company, a ballet school for gifted children, which provides scholarship grants to all its students, and various projects in which she works with UNICEF.
