WFWP-Canada Holds its First Virtual Retreat

On Saturday, January 23, 2021 WFWP-Canada held its first virtual retreat. Altogether, 30 participants from the provinces of Nova-Scotia, Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta and British-Columbia registered and attended all or part of the day’s sessions. Mrs. Lilly Tadin, President of WFWP-Canada hosted and guided the day which consisted of 4 sessions. The aim was to help attendees gain a deeper understanding of WFWP's vision, mission and where we are, heading into 2021 and beyond, and to learn about some of the tools available to support our work, including the Global Women's Peace Network and educational curriculums.

The presenters were Mrs. Angelika Selle, Pres. of WFWP-USA, Mrs. Katarina Connery US VP and Kiyomi Schmidt, US Outreach Director. Each one contributed her energy, wisdom, vision, knowledge and a wealth of experience. The day was quite intense, as we had a new session beginning every 2 hours, lasting 1 hour 15 min., including questions and answers and meeting in break out rooms, leaving a short break. Of course, we have to acknowledge the blessing of technology which made all this possible over 4 time zones!

I will only report on some of the highlights that made this day so meaningful. Mrs. Selle reminded us of the very unique nature and mission of WFWP, to reach out to women of the world to “empower them, create channels of collaboration and have an impact on society” by bringing concrete solutions. All of this to be realized through following  the precepts of the culture of heart that is central to the founder’s philosophy. “When our mindset changes from wishing to receive love, to wishing to give love, the world of peace will be at hand.” Hak Ja Han Moon.

Mrs. Connery informed us about the educational programs that have been developed such as “Leadership of the Heart” and the “Cornerstone for Happiness; Marriage and Family”. She related how these programs are used extensively in other countries. These curricula are accessible for all and one can receive training on-line. She also recommended that we take time to get to know each other, share about our lives and families, what we appreciate about each other and deepen our personal connections.

Ms. Schmidt shared with us about the developments regarding the Global Women Peace Network and how this is serving as a platform to relate to like-minded organizations and multiply our impact. We can learn from their on-line approach and reach many in our nation.

During the day, Dr. Moon Shik Kim, Chairman of UPF Canada encouraged participants to fulfill a role as healers in our community. Dr. Franco Famularo, President of UPF Canada reminded everyone of the special place Canada holds in the history of WFWP. Rev. and Mrs. Moon visited Ontario in June of 1991 and held a special meeting with 4 Japanese female leaders to pray for the mission of Mrs. Moon. The next year in April 1992 saw the international launching of WFWP.

Participants expressed their appreciation:

“I learnt many things, I hope I can learn more and receive updated educational materials to approach young women for WFWP, I would like to learn how to use the social media tools.” Takako Hebert, Quebec.

“..the meeting gave a clear answer that focuses on one thing. I really want that to find key women’s leaders who can create better nations.” Satomi Adshead, Vancouver.

“I really liked how the younger generation are being creative and how much each person wants to make an input into WFWP, the responsibility is for everyone, not for one person, we need to work as a group.” Jacqueline Chithyoka, Toronto.

Since the beginning of the pandemic WFWP-Canada has been holding a weekly meeting where we study our founder’s speeches. Through this we have built strong connections of heart and we are so grateful that so many women who have been living in remote parts of our country can finally have a chance to take part in WFWP. With this retreat we have a clearer vision of how to go forward.

Many thanks to WFWP-USA leadership and Lilly Tadin for the inspiration and guidance you shared with us.
