Seventh Annual Mother-Daughter Webinar

By Christine Ranisavljev

The Women’s Federation for World Peace (WFWP) Canada  hosted its second annual mother-daughter webinar called Inheriting and Bequeathing on Monday, May 30, 2022 from 7 to 8:30 pm.  There were 31 people in attendance.

The webinar began with the Land Acknowledgement by WFWP Vice President Eveline Stewart and a Song by Lauren Alaina called “ Like my mother does”, followed by a welcoming speech by WFWP President Lilly Tadin.

President Lilly remarked that the role of the mother is as a nurturer representing the heart of God.  She stated that every mother is a product of her upbringing.  She mentioned that mothers can only love with the type of love that has been modeled for them.  This is why it is so important that good examples of mothers are raised up in society.  This has been challenging since women have had to struggle in society.  As a grandmother, Lilly expressed that it is so important to leave a spiritual inheritance.  She recommended this be done in the following ways:

  1. Make prayer a regular occurrence with your grandchildren.

  2. Read together.

  3. Share faith testimonies with each other.

  4. Live your faith by example.

Zohra Zoberi, [Author and Founder of Bridging the Gap Productions] opened the presentation with a statement from her mother.  “To hold somebody’s heart in your hand is a big responsibility, so please carry this legacy”.  She remembers her mother as a part of one of 3 affluent families in a very poor neighborhood arranging for watch parties once a week where the neighborhood children could come to her home and watch television since they were the first family to get one. The reward she received was the smiles and contentment on the faces of the neighborhood children while they were entering the fantasy world of the television show. Her message was that little things can make a difference in the lives of others.

Lupe Torres, [Daycare educator] , has always had a thirst to see positive change in the world.  With a strong interest in politics she immediately looked for an advisor and mentor in this field.  She has always been concerned with irresponsible politicians.  She has bequeathed this interest to her daughter who most recently completed her thesis in international studies and works in Paris, France in legislative elections.  Her daughter told her that she wanted to become a politician because she wanted to be honest. She is following the path that her mother chose with the same concern for honesty that her mother desired.  Lupe feels her daughter chose this field because of her encouragement and lack of criticism.

When Amina Mubambe [Teacher and Health Care Nursing Assistant] got married,  her mother told her that she must bring her good behavior as an ambassador of Uganda to her new home in the Congo.  This meant having good morals.   The most important virtue according to Amina’s mother is a hardworking character.  Wealth is unreliable because it can perish whereas morals can withstand time.  The family is unique because it is the place where the child learns the different types of love.  She says the mother’s role is to build self esteem and self confidence in her children. “My mother was a very hardworking and optimistic person.  She taught me resilience, a sense of divinity and resourcefulness. “

A question period followed where each speaker gave their final thoughts on the mother-daughter relationship. The final thought of Ms. Torres was that the surroundings are very important to the life of a child.  We should be mothers who surround others with peace, joy and confidence.

The meeting adjourned with an invitation to the next webinar on Saturday, June 25th. 2022
